A night in Ikebukuro — Tokyo

After travelling approximately 4-5 hours via regional train, and Shinkansen, I arrived at Ikebukuro station in Toshima ward, Tokyo. Up until this moment I haven’t experienced culture shock, however it has hit me pretty hard here. The population and busy-ness of this city caused me quite severe anxiety, however I was prepared to be a bit shocked after such a quiet and isolating time away in Koyasan.

Having freshened up in my hotel, I decided to push through and explore the area. Retail stores, casinos, restaurants and bars were inescapable - capitalism unlike anything I’d experienced before. While still being grateful to be here, I’m looking forward to going regional again in a day’s time on our trip to Washi no Sato.
